                                              Candace Chantrell

Candice Chantrell arrives on the threshold of the music world with her debut album entitled: “Behind the Mic.”  Loaded with energy and lyrical conviction, this songstress is prepared to charge audiences with music that is both creative and inventive while infusing elements of R&B/Pop with flavours of Hip Hop, Rock, and Funk, making for a sound that is truly unique.   For Candice, music entered her life at the age of eight while growing up in Melville, Saskatchewan.  After singing a brief solo in an elementary school play, teachers and local musicians noticed a display of natural talent they could not deny nor ignore.  Candice was immediately encouraged to pursue the possibilities of music further, and so began formal vocal training and competing professionally.  She amassed numerous awards and encouragement from her musical mentors along the way, and soon her formal training expanded into post-secondary studies at Brandon University’s Faculty of Music.  However, after a great many years of classical instruction, Candice’s curiosity for contemporary music sparked; within the comfort of her own bedroom walls, she discovered a new artistic outlet through song writing and the exploration of new contemporary music styles.  Candice was hooked instantly.   The admiration and interest she developed for R&B, rock, pop, & blues grew rapidly and eventually drew her to Edmonton, Alberta where she studied Vocal Performance in Grant MacEwan College’s Contemporary Music Program.  Soon after graduation, Candice continued song writing and began performing with two local rock bands that played frequently at numerous bars and pubs in the Edmonton area.  Throughout all her performing experiences, Candice received perpetual praise for her powerful voice, energy, and genuine commitment on stage.    After years of singing words that were not her own, in 2006, Candice sat down with a good friend in a small coffee shop.  Over simple java talk, the vision of her debut album was born.  She soon came into contact with several professionals who were eager to take part in this unique vision alongside her.  Specifically, Candice was overwhelmed to have the work on her album recognized by Rawlco Radio Ltd; she was selected as one of the few recipients of the Rawlco Radio 10k20 Production Grant, which is awarded to those applicants that demonstrate the planning and production of a promising project while expressing a commitment to furthering their career as a professional musician.
Now residing in Toronto, ON, Candice Chantrell is a new & driven solo singer/songwriter throwing herself into the world of R&B/Pop with her own personal style, energy, and passion. The album showcases Candice's remarkable vocal ability while demonstrating mainstream music that maintains a sense of sophistication and depth.  It features a variety of lyrical tones written & arranged by Jesse Peters ("Lounge MD” from
Paramedic) and co-written by Candice Chantrell.  The combination of these two musicians leaves the album with an overall sense of empowerment while exploring the concepts of independence, personal strength, and pursuing your dreams.   Her debut single “Down to the Disco” appeared on radio playlists throughout Canada earlier this year and her second single “Beautiful Music” received rotation at 20 stations nationwide.  This is fresh on the heels of a world-wide publishing deal with Sound of Pop/ole which saw “behind the mic” released on October 20, 2009 throughout Canada with distribution via Fontana North/Universal Music which she has followed up with regular live performances.
